Ojibwa Hand Carved Wooden Horse Sculpture Signed Indigenous Canadian Art 11"
Ojibwa Hand Carved Wooden Horse Sculpture Signed Indigenous Canadian Art 11"
Hand-carved solid wood horse sculpture created by an Ojibwa (Ojibwe / Anishinaabe) carver in Canada. This piece is fully hand-carved from a single block of hardwood and retains its original identification tag.
The original tag reads “Handcrafted by Canadian Indians” (period terminology), identifies the artist as an Ojibwa carver, and includes a handwritten artist name along with the title “Horse.” These tags were commonly used for Indigenous artworks sold through galleries, cooperatives, and cultural outlets in the mid to late 20th century.
The carving features a raised foreleg and forward stance, giving the piece a strong sense of movement. Tool marks and natural variations in the wood are visible and consistent with hand-carved Indigenous work. The finish appears natural with light polishing rather than heavy lacquer.
